Tools that make choosing a domain name easier.

whoismania is a free service for anyone trying to find, evaluate or catch a domain name. We check each name directly against its registry and show you what it reports, including when an expiring name is due to be released, across 922 top-level domains.

Why we built it

Thousands of .com and .net domains expire every day. Most are renewed, but many pass through a redemption period and a five-day pending-delete window before being released for anyone to register. That timeline is public information, but it is spread across registry records, written in registry terminology, and often republished by sites working from lists that are hours or days out of date.

We wanted a direct answer to three questions: is the name taken, is it on its way out, and when will it be released. That is what whoismania is built to provide.

What the site does today

Enter a domain in any of the 922 extensions we track, and whoismania will tell you where it sits in the deletion process, based on a live query to the registry's RDAP service. For names in pending delete, the result includes a countdown to the release window. For names in redemption, it shows the projected release date and how reliable that projection is. For registered names, it shows the expiry date and the earliest date the name could become available if it is not renewed. Every result includes the registry's own status codes and a record of previous checks, so you can verify the answer for yourself.

The site also provides a whois lookup for IP addresses and a What's my IP page.

What is coming

A daily list of domains being released, a drop calendar, a public API, and additional data to help you assess a name at a glance, such as its age, length and history. We add features when they are ready and accurate, not before.

How the site is funded

whoismania is free to use. Some result pages include links to domain registrars and backorder services. If you register or backorder a name through one of those links, we may receive a referral commission at no additional cost to you. These arrangements do not affect the results we display. We do not sell registry data, do not redistribute it in bulk, and do not contact domain owners.
